I find it funny how everyone skips over the planet pizza machines in favor of the limited free weights or cable machines..

Are the machines at your local gym just for the noobs, teen girls, dare I say..hipsters...

No..if you sit back and watch YouTube vids on topics like load under tension, limited range of motion etc.

You'd see the machines are right...and you've been doing it wrong.

By pulling back on say the cable pull down your going too far and engaged other muscles.. a lot of guys actually touch their nips w the bar

Then look how far back the purple machines go....they stop short/ have a shorter range of motion and keep the stress focused just on your lats..

People laugh at the machines but it's proven you get more muscle activation keeping the exercise in a limited range/ under constant tension..

ALOT of science has gone into the development of these machines..

So please don't treat them like they are your enemy..

They can be better than a squat rack or bench press..

And ALOT safer.

Think of it this way...ALOT of people dumbbell curl for biceps...you literally have 2 " resting phases"..
At the bottom and at the top where people squeeze the muscle..
Both times the tension is stopped..
Instead try partial reps...well not partial...but don't bottom out or top out..

And unfortunately there is a top and bottom resting phase that we do in ALOT of exercises ..even the bench press..

I really think this is why good ole pushups are an effective muscle builder...not too many people top or bottom out for seconds at a time before the next rep is engaged..

So the range of motion gets smaller/ limited..the muscles stay under constant tension..no rest

But hey what do I know..I'm just a " hipster"..going to put on flannel, apply my beard products to look like a lumbersexual and drink my craft beers.
