No. People are people, that doesn't change. I doubt that the numbers of "true believers" actually change that much either, but what is true is that the focus of media is on division, hatred, intollerance, stupidity, corruption, cruelty, gloom and doom. People (often with little imagination) think that these sources reflect the real world, but they distort it.
Populists such as Trump are adept at using new media to spin stories as they want - the danger is that mainstream journalism and liberals are yet to catch up with this or develop a proper counter.

The solution lies in better education, more involvement (personally) in political discussion, if nothing more profound. In demanding a higher standard of journalism whereby they no longer accept a politician stone-walling. We need to get reasonable people (and we vastly outnumber the zealots) involved and ensuring that reasonable voices are heard. In short, we need to overcome the inertia of the average citizen!

hello ,
that is an interesting thought . not sure it is liberation that leads
to anarchy ,,,,,maybe it's the anarchy of the capitalist experience which
is now in many more countries and social classes then a hundred years ago .

i will post a blog with more thoughts on this .
have a nice memorial day weekend and enjoy your 'paradise'

be good

Your choice of words is prescient. The anarchy of liberation is another phrase for identity politics. A book I recommend for understanding this phenomenon is "Identity" by political philosopher and historian Francis Fukuyama. This century's political crises are fed by focus on identity, which differentiates people to the degree that they cannot cooperate outside their own identity group. Their issues and grievances become all-consuming, to the exclusion of all other considerations. Fear becomes the motivating force for those who have benefitted from the status quo. Love is hardly likely to assuage them. Their own self-interest is too all-consuming. Their love is for those they love, who identify with their interests.

You pose real tough questions. They deserve serious consideration and frank answers. I've tried my best to provide that, even though it's probably not good enough.

You use the word anarchy but I suppose I look at it as entitlement. What happened to just being and working for your place in this society.....making your own way without it being handed to you.
