The sign of a great band is when they sound the exact same Live as what they do on their recordings. Be it Vinyl, 8 Tracks, Cassettes, CD'S. Songs recorded in a studio, may not always sound quite like you imagine they would in a Live Concert setting..
It may possibly be from the acoustics in an arena, hall or concert venue that may be off when performed Live, or different arrangements of the songs the band may change to optimize their Live performance..
The Black Crowes on Saturday night at Casino Rama, did not disappoint and for me, it was like their Albums became Live. Word for word, and note for note. Chris Robinson's antics, attitude, voice, charisma and stage presence was larger than life LIVE. One concert from start to finish that was far from being Hard To Handle.. Going way back for this one. REO live was no where close to the albums. Still love the music though.

I think it is hard to duplicate the recorded versions due to the variances you note. I do like seeing a band live over listening to the recording. That's the fun part of being a music fan. But, I generally don't buy the live albums. There is a forthcoming live album by Jason Isbell. One song has been released and it sounds very close to the recording.

I realized 10 years ago that I needed to go see the bands I liked. There is a cold reality here.....the classic rock bands were into 70's...either they retire, break up or die. I am kind of retired now. The cost of concerts has blown up.
The only ones I didn't see, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Davin Bowie one more time. I did Robert Plant and Jimmy Page in post Zeppelin concerts, and Roger Waters, I had seen David Bowie at least once maybe twice. One more time would have been awesome. I saw the Police reunion, the Cream reunion.....Guns and Roses first reunion, Van Halen's first reunion.....

I don't judge live bands. As long as they're in tune, on beat and in harmony — I'm good. And I think current bands are less complex than they were back in the day. I remember seeing Styx (with 20,000 others): crazy show. I don't know HOW they pulled it off, but it was impressive.
These days, I prefer small venues with a tight sound, without a bunch of wild production. The Crows cut it. Thanks for sharing.👍
That Styx concert would have been a crazy show. I saw them here myself at Rama but with Lawrence Gowan as the frontman..You would have liked The Crowes Hun. Smaller venues are much more personal for sure..xoxo

I love the energy of a concert. However the big stars concerts are so freakishly loud, I don't go anymore.

Very few disappointments seeing a band live vs their recorded music. Most bands strive to play live as their recorded music. Lynyrd Skynyrd was devoted to that.
One of the best I saw was John Mellencamp, excellent.

@author51 I never saw the orginal Skynyrd before the plane crash, but have seen them a couple times with some of the original members. They’re all gone now, (Artis Pyle drummer still alive though), but they continue touring under the LS name, but they’re actually a tribute band as there are no original members.

I saw New Order last year live and knocked them off my bucket list but they played extended dance versions of their songs which were great, but wasn’t what I expected. Still loved the show, but their album versions were so good.
I have never listened to them myself Hun.Maybe I will give them a listen..xoxo
