Popularised by Jennifer Aniston and Kim Kardashian, salmon sperm facials are becoming fashionable. The treatment, or tweakment, involves injecting polynucleotides harvested from the DNA of salmon sperm into the skin. Trout sperm can be used as a substitute for salmon sperm.
One study undertaken by a group of Italian researchers based at the Italian College of the Aesthetic Medicine Scientific Societies found over 80 per cent of participants noticed an improvements on their face, as well as other parts of their bodies, after having a salmon sperm facial. However, Jennifer Aniston didn't notice any improvement after her facial.
Some dermatologists are sceptical about the alleged benefits of salmon sperm facials, arguing that there's been little research conducted on the effects of such facials.
