Nearly 75 per cent of poll respondents have experienced anal sex. Of those who have tried anal sex, nearly 90 per cent liked and less than 5 per cent disliked the experience. Proportionally far more men than women enjoyed anal sex, and all trans-people enjoyed anal sex.
Of those who haven't tried anal sex, well over a half wanted to try anal sex and less than a quarter didn't want to try anal sex. Proportionally nearly twice as many men than women wanted to try anal sex for the first time.
Of those who have tried anal sex, 20 per cent have anal sex regularly.
About 15 per cent of respondents who have tried anal sex have had only one partner, 55 per cent have had two-to-five partners, and 30 per cent have had more than five partners. Interestingly, proportionally more women and trans people than men have had multiple anal sex partners.
Nearly 30 per cent of respondents who have tried anal sex have been a top only, just over 15 per cent have been a bottom only, and nearly 40 per cent have been both a top and bottom. It's encouraging that only one woman has claimed to be a top!
With the top and bottom poll questions, I was most interested in the responses of men. Of the nearly 500 men who had anal sex, nearly 35 per cent have been a top only, nearly 15 per cent have been a bottom only, and over 60 per cent have been both a top and bottom. This poll finding supports my view that a lot of straight men here are bisexual or at least bicurious.
Finally from the poll, about one-third of those who've tried anal sex prefer it over vaginal sex, with two-thirds preferring vaginal sex over anal sex. Breaking that finding down by gender, slightly more men than women prefer anal sex over vaginal sex.
From the comments, over 80 received, one reason given why anal sex is pleasurable for some is because of its taboo nature, but what's clear is that anal sex is far from taboo given its frequency here on the site and elsewhere. Statistically speaking, anal sex is normal. There's very little taboo about the sexual practice.
The poll isn't at all representative of either the wider population or even the wider membership here. The poll is just reflective of those who responded. However, because of the very high turnout, and despite the sample being self-selecting, non-random and unstructured, far more confidence can be attached to these poll findings as being generalisable to a wider population.
