John Everett Millais' The Knight Errant, 1870:
This post, with poll, is about bondage as an erotic or sexual practice. By bondage, I mean restricting a person's movement, whether it's with ties, rope, scarfs, belts, stockings, tights, Velcro, rubber bands, cable, handcuffs, ankle cuffs, chain, manacles, shackles, duct tape, cellophane, spreader bars, cages, cock cages, chastity belts, or whatever else that comes to hand.
Rightly or wrongly, I'm excluding the use of blindfolds, masks and collars as a form of bondage play.

The history of bondage, or at least the recorded history of bondage, can be traced back to Japan's Edo period from the very early seventeenth century to the late mid-nineteenth century. The Japanese painter Seiu Ito is widely seen as the father of Japanese bondage after studying the practice of hojōjutsu, the art of restraining a prisoner of war.
The best selling sex manual, The Joy of Sex, written by Alex Comfort and published in 1972, included bondage as a sexual practice, furthering bondage's spread from the East to the West. From an Eastern wartime necessary ritual to a Western peaceful sexual practice!
Juan Maeda's Charming Rope Scenes:
Nearly 30 years ago, in 1995 two Swedish psychologists, Kurt Emulf and Sune Innala, from an analysis of the alt.sex.bondage site, found that just over 70 per cent of heterosexual men, over 10 per cent of heterosexual women and over 10 per cent of homosexual men enjoyed bondage as a sexual practice. Further and later studies have found that the sexual practice of bondage has increased amongst groups of people.
Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres' Roger Freeing Angelica, 1819:
Bondage can be a sexual practice, whether submitting to or dominating sex. But, especially Japanese bondage, it can be seen as an erotic practice, even an aesthetic, artistic and decorative practice.
TheShape1978's Vintage Bondage Art:
Do or did you enjoy bondage as an erotic and/or a sexual practice?
Do you prefer being bondaged or bondaging someone? Or perhaps both?
If so, what did or do you use to ensure someone's or your bondage?
I love bondage, both tying someone up and being tied up. I love bondage so much that I purchased some Japanese bondage rope - very easy to tie and very easy to untie. That is not to say that I can practice Japanese bondage, whether shibari, kinbaku or bakushi, with intricate knot patterns, I can't. But the Japanese bondage rope is one of the best purchases I've ever done for the purposes of sexual pleasure, even better than paddles, dildos, anal beads and ball weights put together.
I used to love tying GIRLFRIEND 21 up by her wrists and ankles to my bedposts using Japanese bondage rope. I used to tie the rope up to the bedposts before she entered the hotel room to show my intent. I think she liked being tied up, and I certainly liked tying her up and fucking her while she was tied up. She liked watching my cock going into her pussy. I used to make sure there was a couple of pillows behind her so she could more easily watch what was happening.
I loved being strapped to a St Andrew's cross by GIRLFRIEND 15 for her to attach ball weights to me. And I loved her in a cage especially if she she backed up to the bars with her pussy wanting and waiting to be fucked by me. Those were the days!

I have been tied up a few times and I can say the fantasy of it is more exciting than the actual experience. In the sense that the mind-game aspect of it wasn't really there for me.
I have been to several shibari - Japanese rope bondage - shows where people are tied up and untied in a ritualistic performance. I enjoy watching that but I don't think I could bear to sit still long enough to be trussed up like that.
I haven't been to any shibari shows but I appreciate the art form.
Bakushi is basically a kinbaku master 🤔
A former playmate tied me to a sex swing and blindfolded me, but it did nothing for me.
I like blindfolds but I'm not keen on swings.
Being tied to a bed while other play with me is fine but not into anything that includes pain or discomfort.
I love being tied to the bed.
@spunkycumfun Yes it can be very erotic indeed
@RavenMoon696 Very erotic and even very sexual.
With a trusted partner, I love being tied. Add a blindfold and I am buzzing.
I also love to tie up my partner to tease him. Make him wait a bit while I have fun. Then help him explode.
I love exploding when tied up.
I have never engaged in bondage though I admit the thought of doing so intrigues me. Had a lover who was also interested in it but we broke up before we tried it. I think I should approach my current lover about her take on it. It most certainly is something that requires a lot of trust and desire from both sides of the bondage duo. (Though I am sure there are those who are into bondage trios and more.)
Japanese bondage rope is a great investment - very easy to tie and untie - if you ever go down the bondage road.
Interesting kinky want to feel it
I hope you get to experience bondage play.
@spunkycumfun i want it so much
Well, you already know that I enjoy it. 😉
I'm expecting quite a few ticks from you!
I definitely need to bone up on more rope play. The last person who indicated interest i brought my bag of tricks out for took one look inside and flung it off the bed and out of reach. Lol. So of course I honored that... with the exception of the tape. I kept that handy, but didn't exactly bind her limbs. Just the nips. If you consider that binding, and I do.
I've used breakaway tape to introduce someone to it. That was a comforting level of security for her.
I think there are many forms of bondage, and even the suggestion of bandage, every so slight can be quite exhilarating.
Keep up the great posts Professor!
I very much recommend Japanese bondage rope.
Light bondage is fine but no ropes or things like that, silk scarves and blind folds are fine for this lady.
I hope your Thursday continues to treat you well..
Japanese bondage rope, easy to tie and easy to untie, are great. These ropes are better than scarves for bondage play.
While I enjoy binding someone, and being bound myself, bondage has never been a big focal point in my sex play. Not sure why really.
I think you may be in a minority regarding bondage.
I did these pictures as an HNW a few years ago. I never really engaged much in bondage, just played around with it, on both sides, as the one doing the tying and the one being tied, although I know the enormous appeal to a lot of people. Btw, the chair is custom made, and is great for CBT involving bondage.
That chair looks most useful for all sorts of fun.
Googling CBT
@russellfireside hahaha I've read your profile and some of your blog. I doubt you have to Google it.
I've marked what could be considered a great number of 'Yeses' on the survey. Bondage in many forms has been something I’ve practiced, with me being the one tied up, occasionally for years, including in very elaborate scenes and even in front of an audience. It’s quite exciting and kinky. 😊
My guess is that there's going to be a lot of people who like bondage in its many forms.
Over 110 people voted in the poll about torture play my FANCY A TORTURE? blog post.
Of those who like torture play, slightly more poll respondents prefer to be the tortured than the torturer, but interestingly women prefer to be the torturer than the tortured.
Over 30 per cent of respondents had tried cock and ball torture (CBT) with the vast majority enjoying the experience. Nearly 50 per cent of respondents didn't want to try CBT.
Similarly over 30 per cent of respondents had tried breast torture with the vast majority enjoying the experience. Over 25 per cent of respondents didn't want to try breast torture.
Nearly 25 per cent of respondents had tried pussy torture again with the vast majority enjoying the experience. Nearly 40 per cent of respondents didn't want to try pussy torture.
Torture play is clearly like Marmite of sexual practices. People either love or hate torture play. I guess that poll finding isn't too surprising.
However, what is perhaps surprising is that there were no significant gender differences. Both men and women like or dislike cock and ball, breast and pussy torture more or less equally.
The poll isn't at all representative of either the wider population or even the wider membership here. The poll is just reflective of those who responded.
