Fetish Artist's 12 Inches of Blue:
This post, with poll, is about fetishes as a sexual practice. A fetish, according to the American Psychological Association, is "a material object (e.g., a shoe, an undergarment, an animal fur or hide) or nonsexual part of the body (e.g., a foot, lock of hair) that arouses sexual interest or excitement", "any object, idea, or behavior that is the focus of irrational devotion or excessive attention, such as punctuality or the pursuit of wealth", or "in anthropology, an object, such as a talisman or amulet, that is believed to embody a supernatural spirit or exert magical force".
This post, plus poll, is only concerned with erotic and sexual fetishes, that's the first meaning of a fetish. It's not concerned with the second and third meanings of a fetish which are of more concern for psychologists/psychiatrists and anthropologists.
Given the first meaning of a fetish, it isn't possible to have a fetish for sexual parts of a human body, such as lips, breasts, pussies, cocks, balls and bottoms. People may have a fixation for such bodily parts but such fixations don't constitute a fetish.
Tom of Finland:
There are many different and common types of sexual fetishes. In one clinical study of 48 cases (not a big sample), clothing (58 per cent), rubber (23 per cent), footwear (15 per cent), body parts (15 per cent), leather (10 per cent and soft materials or fabrics (6 per cent) were the most common sexual fetishes found - see Chalkley A J & Powell G E (1983) The clinical description of forty-eight cases of sexual fetishism, The British Journal of Psychiatry, 142(3) 292-295.
In another academic study of sexual fetishes, one which counted the number of internet discussion groups with fetish in their name, common body fetishes were feet, body fluids, body size, hair and muscles and common clothing fetishes were stockings, skirts, footwear, underwear and whole-body wear (eg jackets) - see Scorolli C et al (2007), Relative prevalence of different fetishes, International Journal of Impotence Research, 19(4) 432-437.
Other sexual fetishes include body hair, headwear, legs, mouths, nails, nappies (diapers), navels (tummy buttons), pacifiers (dummies), stethoscopes and wristwear. Erotic asphyxiation (choking - see my earlier FANCY A CHOKE? blog post) and devotism (an attraction to disability, especially amputated arms and legs) are also regarded as sexual fetishes.
Eric Stanton's Family Maid:
Like with any fetish, a sexual fetish can be regarded as a psychiatric disorder if the fetish is causing psychological distress for the fetishist and/or it prevents the fetishist from functioning normally.
Paraphilias, such as coprophilia, necrophilia and urophilia, can be regarded as sexual fetishes but discussion of such fetishes is banned on this site. There's also mucophilia, a sexual practice in which sometimes gets off on someone sneezing.
Other animals have been found to develop sexual fetishes. It's not just us humans that have fetishes! We probably all know what male dogs will do with a woman's and even a man's legs!
Do you have and/or enjoy any sexual fetishes? If so, what are they and why do you enjoy them?
Have you come across people with a sexual fetish? If so, and if you were having sex with them, did you accommodate and even enjoy their fetishes?
I don't think I have any sexual fetishes. I love frizzy hair, denim and anklets but these are just turn-ons and not fetishes for me. There was a phase when I was buying a lot of rubber and leather outfits for my then girlfriend. But I don't regard that as a fetish as the outfits soon came off when we had sex.
But if pushed about a fetish, I'd probably say feet. I do enjoy sucking a woman's toes but only if I think they like it. But maybe that's the key with a fetish, those with a fetish think others will like it! The more I think about this question, the more I struggle to distinguish between a preference, a turn-on, a fixation and a fetish.
I don't think I've encountered someone with a fetish though one of my girlfriends seemed to get off on picking my spots/zits. She got frustrated because I was never a spotty or zitty person! I just had to lay back as she happily squeezed a rare spot she found on my face!

Back before dirt I thought certain things were a fetish. Then they were kinks. Now I just label myself as a fun girl
It's strange how our views about sex change over time.
It's only kinky the first time… Then it's just damn fun!
A fit mature man wearing a custom made elegant dark suit
If we ever to meet, I'll make sure I'll be wearing my Paul Smith, Italian-made, suit.
The Other Side of Desire is an interesting book by Daniel Bergner that touches on fetishes (one of the case studies in the book is a man whose foot fetish is so extreme that it interferes with normal life).
I'm not sure if I read it in this book or elsewhere, but one guideline for a fetish is that the object is required for the person to be able to get off. If it is merely an enhancement, but the person could have sex without it, then it's more in the category of a turn-on.
well quess I don't have any fetishes lol good to know ... seems I learn something new almost every day ... now I am curious as to what is the definition of a kink???? never thought to google this stuff lol I better get on it lol
I'll chase up that book you mention. As I was compiling this post, I was having problems separating a turn-on from a fetish.
Is it a REQUIREMENT to get off or not, is the definition I've always heard too. Liking to have sex on a bike seat is one thing, not being able to get off unless you're on, or perhaps smelling, bike seat is quite another situation.
@sleek7124 It's always good to have lots of turn-ons!
@WidDLavRu4Me Excellent point! I suppose I need to get clear myself on the difference between a turn on, a fetish, a kink, or just generally being open minded and enjoying whatever activity presents itself. Huh!
Over 140 people voted in the poll about gangbanging on my FANCY A GANGBANG? blog post.
34 per cent of poll respondents have engaged in a gangbang with three-quarters enjoying the experience. Not surprisingly, far more, five times more, men than women have experienced a gangbang.
The most common type of gangbang was a heterosexual gangbang, followed by a bisexual gangbang, a gay gangbang, a lesbian gangbang and, lastly, a heterosexual reverse gangbang.
About a half were the gangbanged and about a half were the gangbanger. Again not surprisingly, proportionately more men than women were the gangbanger and proportionately more women than men were the gangbanged.
Of those who haven't experienced a gangbang, over a half wanted to try a gangbang and under a third didn't want to try a gangbang. Proportionately more men than women wanted to try a gangbang, and proportionately more women than men didn't want to try a gangbang.
The poll isn't at all representative of either the wider membership here or even the wider population. The poll is just reflective of those who responded.
I also have a fetish for seeing a man leaking copious amounts of PRECUM due to my playing with them in various ways. I was flogging a man on a St. Andrew's cross and with each landing of the thick, thuddy flog, his breath would gasp, his head would gently and slowly roll from one shoulder to the other, and his cock would leak long strings of viscous, elastic, hot precum. I was surprised to no end at how turned on this made me. I couldn't believe how sexy I felt participating in this activity, witnessing his reaction, and seeing how much precum he could release. I needed to control myself from ravaging him, act as indifferent and stoic as the role requires, but my pussy was so wet I thought it might start working the wetness outside my panties and down my inner thigh. Sigh. That was some of the hottest play I have ever enjoyed.
That sounds like one hot session.
I've always thought that only men have fetishes in the definitive way. I've never met or heard of a woman who truly was sexually aroused by an object or nonsexual body part. Muscles and tattoos are an inherently sexual body part so having an attraction to them doesn't really count in my mind. A disembodied picture of a bicep or a tattoo won't do what a picture of a foot will to a person with a foot fetish. I mean, sure we all love a well built chest on a man, or a nice ass but honestly, a woman having a foot fetish? I'm just not seeing it.
I was very guided by the research literature on what constitutes a fetish.
I do have what i guess is a fetish for tattoos. BUT, its part of a bigger fetish, skin. i love and get sexually turned on by touching a partner. i love the feel of skin under my hands as a huge part of my foreplay. and if someone has a tattoo or tattoos, i love to touch them. an aff profile had caught my eye once and he actually emailed me saying he was going to be within driving distance of me. we did end up meeting twice but this tattoo sent me over the edge. i couldnt WAIT to touch it. it was beautiful!
I have no tattoos on my body. I'm not against them but I just I don't want them on my body.
While I admit I have some things I particularly love and find to be a strong turn on, like the aroma of a horny pussy or large darkly shaded inner lips, I don't think they rise to the definition of a fetish.
Though fuzzy, I think there's a difference between a fetish and a turn-on or a sexual preference.
@spunkycumfun Fuzzy seems to describe where the line is in so many things connected to sex. From just a turn on to being a fetish, where the spanking goes from being a pleasure to to much and so on for most kinks. Some like it a bit and others to take it to an extreme.
@justskin1 Sex is invariably fuzzy.
@spunkycumfun And that is why one needs to pay close attention to the one you are having sex with. We need all the clues we can get.
@justskin1 Very true.
Not on list .... I havent try before but I want try
Thanks for stopping by to comment.
Pubic hair
I like public hair too. Thanks for stopping by.
Im into naked women wearing high heels, stockings and gathers, and if they are dripping juices..... the best!!! That makes me start dripping precum just watching it...
At least you know your fetishes which is always a good thing.
I love women’s toes! Definitely have a foot fetish. And lately their bellybuttons as well. Not so much a fetish with their bellybuttons, but nice to look at.
You fetishist!
I have a wide range of things that turn me on...someone's eyes, their smile, how they move...but nothing that meets the definition of a fetish.
I think that's how most people are here, lots of turn-ons but no or few fetishes.
I love anal sex. I'm not sure if that is a fetish but it is what like most.
Strictly speaking, anal sex isn't a fetish but it's still god. Thanks for stopping by.
I guess you ran out of options since I don't see one for not having or interested in fetishes.
If someone gets turned on by someone sneezing, February is a good time to travel to Japan where people with pollen allergies will be sneezing away left and right 😂
I didn't need that option as I can find that number roughly out by deducting those with a fetish from the total number of people voting.
Based on the "is it a REQUIREMENT to get off?" theory I mentioned below, I do not have any fetishes.
But I REALLY LIKE lingerie, especially the access and views afforded by crotchless panties and open cup bras, so much so that some might define it as a fetish.
Lingerie is a big turn-on for me.
This was an interesting poll today my friend. I don't have any fetishes, so I didn't vote on this one. I hope your Friday is a great start to a wonderful weekend..
I didn't vote either as I don't, like you, think I have any fetishes.
I have strong idk likes ... pretty not what consider fetishes ... a few kinky fantasy type of things that tweek my curiosity/interest maybe although no idea if they are considered ones that fall under the heading of kinky ...
I think there's a spectrum from a turn-on to a fetish. And kinky is only relative to others. Fuck them!
