Currently I steam whole potatoes but would bake had I the tools for that. I'm a simple girl - drizzed with olive oil and fresh lemon juice, maybe some dried oregano and finely chopped onion. That's it. You can still taste the potato.
Your steamed potatoes sound great.
What a great poll this morning I had to vote other. You see I make what is called Garlic Baked Potatoes.
I cut the potatoes in half, put pats of butter, chopped garlic, and sea salt and cracked black pepper in them. Then I wrap them in doubles foil and bake for about 3-4 hours. Because I use huge Baker Potatoes.
We then open them up and I put, more butter, sour cream, grated cheese, bacon and green onions in mine. These are so delicious and that makes for on meal.
If I make them again soon, I will take a picture and share it with you. I hope your Friday is a great start to an exciting weekend..
I've never had garlic baked potatoes but they sound great.
That sounds like an awesome baked potato! Being me, I figure the only thing that would make eating it even better would be for all the guests to be dining in the nude.
I don't eat a lot of potatoes. I did recently make a recipe that was pinto beans, poblano chiles, and salsa verde - that was quite good over a baked potato.
Americans seem to like fancy (but good) combinations on their baked potatoes compared to Brits.
I chose butter...but really, there is a time for other toppings. Sometimes, even butter with a dollop of sour cream with a sprinkle of chives. And you cannot go wrong with a nice breakfast potato filled with egg, cheese and bacon.
A baked potato filling of egg, cheese and bacon sounds scrummy!
@spunkycumfun Weekend breakfast of champions!
@CuteBBW1973 Definitely!
My favorite potato is filled with broccoli and cheese. 2nd favorite is when Hubby slathers them with oil and seasalt in the oven, and I top with butter and sour cream.
Both your favourite baked potatoes sound appetising,
Mazatlan is noted for its pspas locos. Baked potato
That looks a very tasty baked potato.
When it comes to baked potatoes I'm somewhat old fashioned. I prefer a little EVOO, a pinch of sea salt, fresh ground black pepper and chopped, fresh chives (from my garden).
Your old fashioned baked potato sounds a very appetising baked potato.
@spunkycumfun It is, and it's also very healthy if you go easy on the salt. We garden a lot and grow our own potatoes. There is nothing like one fresh out of the ground and slow baked.
@loveahard6 I never add salt on baked potatoes. I rarely add salt to any food nowadays.
@spunkycumfun I'm the same way - little or no salt on anything and little or no salty foods. Same with sugar.
@loveahard6 Like you, I don't add sugar to food except to honeydew melon and strawberries.
@spunkycumfun Both are way too sweet for me. I know it makes some people cringe but I peel lemons and grapefruit and eat them as tho they were oranges. Green apples are another favorite. Some folks love salty, some sweet. I crave tart.
@loveahard6 I generally like tart. It's one one those tastes that get's appreciated the older we get.
If I had to choose, it would be bacon and cheese, but I like my baked potatoes simple, with just salt, pepper, and maybe some butter.
Simple is often best when it comes to baked potatoes.
I like chopped beef brisket and bbq sauce on a baked potato. It's a meal. Then I love the traditional butter, bacon, chive combo. Baked potatoes are a treat that we eat maybe once a month?
I bake whole potatoes in the oven.
Baked potatoes here are generally eaten as a main dish rather than as a side dish.
I like to put bacon crumbles, shredded cheese and sour cream with a dash of pepper on my baked potato. I voted for the cheese and bacon and would have added the sour cream if I could have.
Most of the other possibles do not appeal to me.
Your combination sounds absolutely delicious. Here in Britain, we tend to be quite simple with our fillings and toppings. The Americans are showing us the way.
@spunkycumfun I should mention that I melt the shredded cheese onto the potato by placing a heated cast iron skillet upside down on the plate for a few minutes. Then I put the sour cream on it.
@justskin1 You're making your baked potato sound even tastier!
BBQ grilled potatoes, the small ones, then a bit of salt and olive oil to accompany any other thing like grilled meat or chicken. Not often, but every time we made a BBQ at home there you have the potatoes
I tend to over-cook my potatoes when I have a barbecue.
@spunkycumfun Well, yes, my husband also burns some potatoes from time to time...
@AuraAviatik6 Men and barbecues!
Although it's been years since I had a baked potato, I am with mysexualgoodtime below where she said, cheese, bacon, chives and sour cream, but don't forget the butter too below all those toppings. Restaurants in my area have them as appetizers that way. Some call them Potato Skins on the menu. Yummy for sure, if done right.
I always place of knob of butter in my baked potato before I add another filling.
@spunkycumfun The only way to do it! Otherwise I find them so dry. Butter makes it so yummy! Then again, butter makes a lot of food yummy!
@MsSkinny Butter is magical!
It's situational.
For a meal, Chili maybe Cheese.
For a side, bacon with cheese and butter, maybe sour cream.
The next day, sliced fried in butter of olive oil till crispy then Cream Chipped Beef or sausage gravy.
As a snack, butter salt pepper and maybe cheese.
Next Evening, mashed up with flour, cheese, bacon to form a dough. rolled into balls, boiled and fried again.
Rarely do we have a baked potato as a side dish here in Britain.
@spunkycumfun is it always chips? Never got the vinegar thing either.
@FieryFunPa Chips, though in a restaurant they're often called fries, are a popular side dish. Loaded skins are popular too.
At fish and chip shops, chips are always served with salt and vinegar.
cheese, bacon, sour cream and chives is a perfect filling for a baked potato. it wasnt a total selection on your poll. but its delicious.
There wasn't enough room in the poll to have all possible combinations of fillings for a baked potato.
@spunkycumfun i did follow the rules and only said bacon and cheese but i need butter sour cream and chives as well. you know me, im a rebel rouser...lol
@mysexualgoodtime There are probably an infinite combinations. I tried, perhaps in vain, to include the basic and popular ones.
Perhaps yet another example of what a unworldly eater I am. My first reaction was butter, though later it occurred to me to add bacon and cheese. But eggs??!! Never even considered it - and at the price of eggs these day, gonna be a while before I try it.
Since I eat the skin too (reportedly very nutritious) I've long said "baking means oven". A few months back, in desperation, I put some in the microwave and they turned out surprisingly well.
I hear eggs have got very expensive in America.
@spunkycumfun holy shit, you aint kidding, my uncle in wva spent 12 bux a dozen. but also, even though the orange chud wants to blame the former guy, thousands of birds have been killed because a huge bird flu epidemic
@mysexualgoodtime There's a bout of avian flu going round here too, but not as bad as in America.
